Structural Barriers

element element element element

All organisations operate with certain structures. Eg. There is a structure for accountability, another one for recruitment, another one for pay. Structural barriers arise from such organisational structures. They are those factors that are specific to an organisation and encourage differentiation between “us” & “them” through the policies and procedures.

Structural barriers are barriers which can indirectly lead to discrimination against a person with disability.
